Our day with Luke

I went on my first field trip as a non-teacher this week. Owen and I went to Bi-water farms and pumpkin patch with Luke's preschool class. It was such a beautiful day and we enjoyed our time with Luke!

This was Owen's 4th trip to the pumpkin patch this year. He now knows what it takes to find the perfect pumpkin.

Owen had his first taste of apple cider, he LOVED it and cried when it was all gone.

Luke enjoyed introducing Owen to his buddies, he was inspecting Owen's teeth in this picture.

He's a pirate
We got to see some barnyard animals and feed some goats.

After the field trip Luke came over and I put the boys to work.

We had a great day with our buddy and look forward to going on many more field trips.

In other news Owen has been growing into a big boy and is starting to understand so much about the world around him. This is a very busy stage, but is so amazing to see our baby grow and learn everyday. He has stopped taking a morning nap (much to my dismay), but he was more than ready. He makes cow sounds, and roars when he sees a picture of a lion. He knows where his ears are and I think he says ears. He knows many words, but doesn't always say them on demand - horsey, shoes, this, boo, mama, dada, banana, nana, and bye bye. We love our big boy!

Sick day(s)

I had the flu last week for the first time in years. It was terrible, especially because I now have a toddler who needs to be chased after and kept busy most of the day. I just wished I could call in sick and not have to worry, but you just can't do that as a stay at home mommy. Luckily I have an amazing sister who took Owen one afternoon, an perfect husband who took off work one morning to get Owen out of the house and a wonderful mom who came down to spend the afternoon looking after the little man.

I was feeling better by the weekend so Brad and I got up early Saturday morning to take Owen to Keeneland for Breakfast with the Works. You are served breakfast, buffet style and then you have the opportunity to tour the grounds and watch the horses get their morning workout in.

Some of the horses came up close so Owen was able to pet one.

There was a dancing horse as well, Owen wasn't so sure about this one.

Mostly Owen enjoyed running around and smiling at new people.

Owen loves his daddy!

On Sunday Brad left us to go to Indianapolis to watch the Browns get destroyed by the Colts. It is yet again a disappointing season for my loyal Browns fan of a husband. So while Brad was gone Owen and I decided to go to Hall - zoo - ween at the Cincinnati zoo with Brad's sister Katie and brother Brian. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time.

Owen dressed to match some of the lions at the zoo. Owen kept his lion hat on for about 0.5 seconds, so this was the only picture we were able to get in full costume.

Owen was excited to spend time with his aunt Katie

And uncle Brian

They helped me chase after him all day.

Huber's Orchard

Owen and I had a great day yesterday. We traveled to Huber's Orchard and Winery right outside of Louisville to meet my friend from high school (actually friend from middle school) and her daughter Joey. Joey is exactly 2 months older than Owen. It is always fun getting together with the babies, but especially now that they are interacting more.

They both love the itsy bitsy spider song!
Going in for the kiss

They loved running around and running away from each other. It was difficult to get these two together because there was just so much to look at.

We had so much fun and can't wait to see you all again soon! We hope to make this an annual tradition with Kristi and Jenna plus their little ones next year.

Our fabulous birthday weekend!

Owen's actual birthday was on Saturday and mine was on Sunday. We had a great time celebrating the birthday filled weekend as a family. We talked all day about where we were at this time last year. It is hard to believe that Owen has only been in our lives for a year. We love our little man and wanted to do something fun this weekend so we planned to go hiking at Red River Gorge on Saturday but the forecast called for rain, so sadly we decided not to go.

Anyways it turned out to be a beautiful day after we had already decided not to go. So we took a long drive through the beautiful countryside to Windy Corner cafe.

This little place has delicious southern cooking and is surrounded by the beautiful horse country. Owen loved eating barbecue and exploring on the property after lunch.

Then we passed by this little winery on the way home and stopped for some wine flights. Owen loved running around outside and checking out the grape vines while playing on the grounds.

We made it home for Owen's afternoon nap, but not before we got our last monthly photo in. It is much more difficult to get a good picture of a 12 month old. Bribing with food always works!

He looks enormous in this picture. At the end of the night we stopped by Oktoberfest at West Sixth Brewery. Owen met a friend to steal a ball from, I mean to play ball with.

Owen also enjoyed watching the hilarious dancers that stopped by for the bike prom. We have to participate in this sometime.
Sunday we celebrated my birthday by going to one of my alltime favorite restaurants in Lexington, Sal's. We got a babysitter so we were able to go without a wiggling child. We had a lovely dinner filled with adult conversation!

Our little pumpkin is one (almost)!!

We celebrated Owen's first birthday a week early. His birthday is actually this coming Saturday but we thought since so many people were visiting last weekend for the Bourbon Chase we should celebrate then. I used one of my favorite websites, pinterest for inspiration for my pumpkin themed party.

We had apple cider and lots of different kinds of pumpkin beer (for the adults of course).

I made a pumpkin cake, which actually didn't come out as planned, it was supposed to be a double layer of bundt cakes so the cake should have been higher, but it still worked.

Owen wasn't so sure about the cake....

but he sure liked the chocolate cone used as the stem.

I made a banner with a picture of Owen from each month of his life thus far.

Here is a closer view.
We set up cornhole in the backyard and had pumpkin decorating at a table out back.

Some of Owen's cute girlfriends came to celebrate.
Owen loved showing off his new walking skills at the party.

Owen enjoyed opening his gifts, however his favorite gift was the used toy Max and Luke wrapped up for him, go figure.
Seriously, this kid won't put it down, I'm not even quite sure what it is. Notice the chocolate all over him.
Owen is one happy boy!

We had so much fun celebrating with friends and family! It was a perfect day for a perfect little boy.
