Swim class

Owen and I started going to a mommy and baby swim class this week. Owen had some friends he knew from the mommy and baby pilates and yoga class we have been going to. It is nice to start meeting other babies around town. Here is a picture of our little stud getting ready for class...

Owen loves the pool, but he was a little concerned when it was time to be dunked under the water. He was fine the first time but the second dunk did not go over real well.

We have been busy looking at houses lately. We are lucky enough to be able to leave Owen with his Aunt Kristin most of the time but yesterday we decided to take Mr. O. All was well the first visit, Owen loved being held in the sling and looking at all the features of the new house. I thought okay I can do this, then I started to smell something stinky and realized Owen had a blowout in his diaper and it leaked through his clothes onto the baby sling and then onto my shirt. Of course I carry extra clothes for Owen, but I have learned my lesson and will now carry extra clothes for myself as well. It was a little uncomfortable having to go through the rest of the homes with poop on my shirt. However yesterday was a success, we found the house we both LOVE!! We walked in the home and said "this is it"! But this house is for sale by owner and we are a bit concerned that the owner may be difficult to work with. Wish us luck, we are making an official offer today. Let's hope this all goes smoothly.

Say What????

Now that I am a stay at home mom, I guess I should follow these rules in order to make the man of the house happy. Haha, yeah right!

Sweet potatoes

Owen has been eating cereal for about a month and is always interested in whatever we eat. So we figured it was time to start feeding Owen some foods other than cereal. I have decided I am going to try to make all of Owen's food. Hopefully I am able to stick with it because there are so many more benefits. I started with sweet potatoes. I put a sweet potatoe in the oven at 425 degrees for 45 minutes, this makes it nice and squashy. Then I used a food mill and mixed the sweet potatoe with a little bit of water.

Here is the finished product...

Owen wanted to grab the bowl and play in it..........................

He liked it, now time for a bath!

Beautiful spring day

We enjoyed a beautiful weekend in Lexington. The weather was perfect and we really did not have many plans which made it even better. We took a long walk around town on Saturday and made a stop at Woodland Park.

Back to the previous post, I mentioned we thought about making an offer on a house we liked, well the owners accepted a different offer before we could go back to look at the house a second time. We are a little disappointed but hopeful more homes will come on the market in our preferred neighborhood. Apparently it is not a buyer's market in Lexington.

House hunting

We have adjusted to suburban life, I think. We are renting a townhome in Hamburg Farms. Here is a picture of some of the townhomes.

This has been the perfect place to be short term. I wanted to rent a place that was easy to live in (meaning not old), and I really wanted to see what it was like to live out this way away from downtown. In Columbus we lived in Grandview which was a mile away from downtown and there were great restaurants, bars, shops and a farmers market all within walking distance of our house. But our house was nearly 100 years old and we were almost always working on projects. This we decided is something we don't want to do with a small baby. So Hamburg is appealing.

We found a great neighborhood in our price range, that is in a great school district and walking distance to a park. I need to be able to walk somewhere:). We have gone through every house for sale In our price range over there. We found one that I absolutely love and Brad likes everything about it except the size of the living room. I just keep going crazy over the size of the closets coming from an old house where the closet space is minuscule, I love the idea of putting all my clothes in one place. Stay tuned, we may make an offer on this one:)

In other news, my Kentucky Wildcats came away with a big win last night against IU. Sorry to disapoint my Indiana roots but I will always root for my alma mater. Go CATS!!

We went to a friend's house to watch the game but Owen couldn't make it to tip off so we left daddy there and came home early.

5th month

Owen is now actually 5 1/2months old, but I took these pictures on his 5th month birthday.

I started taking pictures and then realized, oops, wrong number on his onesie:). I guess this is what happens when ou are sleep deprived.

Here are the right ones...

In Owen's fifth month of life he has learned to roll over both ways and is sitting up on his own. He is still a little wobbly but is doing a pretty good job on his own.

Owen and I went to The Little Gym for some play time. We had a great time playing with other babies and learning some new tricks

He doesn't look really happy in this picture but he did seem to love it.

Sweet home Indiana

My Grandma turned 90 years old this week so my entire family decided to take a surprise trip to Indiana.

She was really surprised and we had so much fun visiting with her. Owen especially enjoyed all the attention from his GG

While we were in Martinsville we had so many people to see and so little time. Owen just had to make time for one of his girlfriends Joey, so we made a play date at the zoo with my friend from high school, April and her two girls. I brought my nephew Luke so he could enjoy the day as well.

Owen loves seeing other babies.

He loves to reach out and squeeze their faces, Joey doesn't seem to mind.

It was 80 degrees in the middle of March, which made for a hot day at the zoo.

My nephew, Superman, loved seeing a new zoo. His favorite part was the cheetahs.

Owen enjoyed sleeping the day away.

Next we went to my dad's house for a get together with extended family. All 6 of my dad and Karen's (my stepmom) grandchildren were together. So they had to get this picture taken....

I think they were angry that they were forced to wear camouflage. For those of you who know my dad he is a big hunter and outdoorsman. The kids loved going fishing, riding the tractor and the four wheeler with PopPop. We enjoyed letting the kids run wild and play together.

Then I made a date with three of my best girlfriends from high school. Everytime I come home we plan a time to get together and reminisce about old times. Jenna and I have been friends since kindergarten, kristi and I have been friends since the second grade and April and I have been friends since middle school. It is so special to have girls like this in my life. I love you ladies and all of the times we spend together.

We had such a fun day together, we went to a new winery in Martinsville and had a picnic outside while enjoying some good wine.

This was our first time at the new winery and we were pleasantly surprised at how great it was. It didn't hurt that it was 80 degrees and sunny, it was a perfect day!

I will leave you with a few pictures of GG's birthday party. We love you GG!! Thanks for being such an incredible role model, you are one of a kind!

We are ready for Nana to come home from Arizona!!!!!

Sick baby

Our little guy is sick again, blah! He has a runny nose and a cough. While being sick Owen has learned how to whine, it was cute the first time but I think we have many years to come of hearing this whining sound. In order to help relieve some of Owen's congestion we have been using the NoseFrida.

This is one of my absolute favorite baby items. You stick the blue part in the baby's nose and the mom or dad (Brad refuses to do this), suck the snot from the other end. No, you don't ingest any of the snot, it goes into a filter. It actually works much better than the bulb syringes. I highly recommend this! Although now Owen has started to push it away as soon as he sees it coming.

The same company came out with something interesting I thought I would share, it is called the Windi, it is supposed to relieve gas. I will let you use your imagination for how this works....

Don't worry Owen, I'm not planning to purchase this for you:)

Owen has been sleeping better even through his sickness, he loves cuddling and sleeping with his Jellycat - the giraffe. I bought two of these in preparation of losing one but I did not think it would happen so soon. I think it fell out of the jogging stroller on our run around Woodland Park last week so if you are out in Lexington and happen to see this giraffe please return to the Drapp home, thanks.

We are heading to Martinsville on Wednesday to spend the week with my family. We will be celebrating GG's 90th birthday, but shhhhh....it's a surprise! I can't wait to see the look on her face when we all arrive!

Finally!!

Owen slept for ten hours in a row last night!!

I am so excited but I don't want to get ahead of myself in case this guy decides that he is not ready to sleep through the night.

Here are some of Owen's favorite things.....his feet, he can't keep his hands off of them.

Owen loves his exersaucer!

One of Owen's other favorite things is Daddy. Brad can't wait until Owen gets bigger so he can wrestle on the floor with him, while I want Owen to stay this age forever!

In other news, it is actually snowing in Lexington today, however last week the temperature was in the 60's. So we spent some time playing at the park with Owen's cousins.

Luke playing at Woodland Park

Max is so big! I can't believe he will be in kindergarten next year.

Owen played in the swing for the first time and actually seemed to enjoy it.

Baby bottle boot camp

Baby O had only tried to take a bottle a handful of times in his short life of 4 1/2 months. It was too difficult for me to find a regular time to pump each day. It was much esier for me to nurse him whenever he seemed hungry. So with the big move, Owen had not taken a bottle in over a month and each time we tried he threw a huge fit and refused.

I decided that if I ever wanted to leave the house I would need to put this child through bottle camp.

I did a ton of research and found that most people had the best luck with the Playtex Drop-ins, not the fancy Tommee Tippee bottles that I already own. So I dragged Brad and Owen to BuyBuy Baby to purchase all the right equipment to get started. I also read that you hould put the baby in a high chair or a car seat for the first few feedings and not to hold him the way he is held while being nursed. After retaining all of this new information I was ready to give it a shot.

Owen seemed excited for his new bottle.

I leaned him back in the high chair....

And voila he took it like a champ with no fussing at all!! Excuse this picture of me with no makeup:). Since last week, Owen has taken one bottle a day with no problems, yay!!
