Bathroom remodel

When we bought our house we knew that we wanted to remodel our master bath. It was the only thing in the house that I was impatient about changing. We knew it would be a project that we just wouldn't have time to do ourselves now that we have a busy little toddler and one on the way. Here are some pictures of our old bathroom.

Before...
Our old vanity and the lenolium floor that looked permantly dirty.

The reason I even have these photos is because my thrifty husband sold each of these items on Craigslist. Who would have thought someone would buy your old toilet? Now we know.

Anyways, brad and I have never hired a contractor for a house project, at our house in Columbus, pre-baby we did all projects ourselves with the help of our dads, so this was all new territory for us.

We had several contractors come over to give us a bid, we hired one of the contractors who brad really liked and seemed to know what he was talking about. We cleared out the bathroom, moving all of our things into the guest bathroom thinking we would only be using that bathroom for 2 weeks at the most. We expected contractor # 1 to show up Monday morning and we never heard from him. We tried to call, didn't get an answer. We gave him a couple of days thinking something happened and that he surely would call us back. We still haven't heard from contractor # 1.

That brings us to contractor # 2, Carlos. We hired him after meeting one of his friends who purchased our old vanity. He actually showed up when he said he would so we thought we were off to a good start. He completed the demolition of the shower and the bathroom floor. But we noticed he was VERY slow, but seemed thorough so we were pleased. He built the new shower which you have to do if you want your shower tiled and he tiled the shower floor. He finished this on a Saturday and then sent brad a text message saying he was overwhelmed with the rest of the project and that he quit. He worked for us for a week and we have never heard from him again, weird!

We were panicked looking for a new contractor who could come as soon as possible and finish this darn project. One of our neighbors, Keith (a contractor) came over and said he just had a job get pushed back so he could start the very next day. Keith worked his tail off the first week, and finally we had our shower tiled, then we had him paint, tile the floor, do some of the trim work, install the toilet, replace some of the pipes for the new vanity, etc. it took Keith almost three weeks to finish the rest of the project. But now we have a bathroom that we can use and the best part of all, no more contractors in our house making a huge dusty mess everyday. Here are some pictures of the new bathroom.

I really don't think this project would have been so bad, however I was suffering from terrible morning sickness during the remodel and was completely exhausted from being in my first trimester. Glad we are moving past all of that now!

  1. It looks so good! Even better in person!! You should do a wide shot so we can see the awesome tile around the tub, too :-)

Maybe our next house renovation will be to our master bath, too. Though I think I have to wait a year or two between projects!
