1st grade: Owen's new school

Twas the night before first grade and we had one very nervous boy.  Owen loved kindergarten at Carmel Elementary but we decided we were really missing the community feeling from sending him to a neighborhood school.  We also knew that we couldn't give our children the religious education that the catholic school could.  We are blessed to live less than one mile Our Lady of Mt. Carmel school and can walk or ride bikes there.  Owen really didn't want to leave his friends at his old school but we knew in our hearts that this was the best decision for our family.
Brad made this sweet card for our nervous little guy.  He is the best dad...

The first day came and Owen had a rough start to the day.  He wouldn't even let us take our usual first day of school pictures.  Brad had to literally pull him out of the van and forcefully walk him into the school.  Once inside the school, Owen refused to walk any further.  It was heartbreaking for me to watch him struggle so much.  Luckily his teacher came in the hallway to help him walk into the classroom.  I may have cried until my neighbor happened to be at the school during Owen's recess and sent me this picture....
Owen met some new friends and saw some of his old buddies from soccer.  That evening and next morning, he was in a much better place.  He even let us take some pictures of him...

So far this year has been wonderful!  We have been meeting great families and feel fortunate to be given this opportunity.
