Owen turned 14 months old on December 6th. I thought I would update you with 14 things about our 14 month old baby.
1. I never thought I would have the pleasure of saying this, he has become a good sleeper at night. He sleeps from about 8:00 to 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning and we dropped his morning nap, so he is down to one nap. He usually naps for 2-3 hours. It is a wonderful break from a busy toddler.
2. He is babbling all kinds of things but he says some words too, mama, mommy, dada, book, max, nana, horsey, hoho, wow, hat, hot hot, uh-oh, he mouths pop pop, and we think he said Mimi the other day.
3. Owen does a lot of signing to communicate his wants. He signs for please, thank you, drink, bye bye, eat, and read.
4. Speaking of reading, it is the little man's favorite activity. He brings us books all the time and wants us to sit and snuggle (which I don't mind) while reading them. Owen's favorite time to read books is in bed with mommy and daddy before we put him in his bed.
5. Owen has turned into a big eater, he went through a picky stage but is back to eating anything and everything. He loves berries of any kind, pineapple, grapes, eggs and avocado are a morning staple in our house, he loves these edamame and tofu nuggets from trader joes, pasta, meatballs, quesadillas broccoli, beans, and many more. I wish he would eat more yogurt (which he used to love) but for some reason has stopped eating it. Owen pretty much eats whatever we eat.
6. Owen loves to feed himself and he bangs his fork on the counter until he stabs the food he wants and stuffs it in his mouth. He makes a terrible mess while doing it, and I cringe every time but I know he is learning a new trade and it is a necessary part of life so I just get the broom ready for clean up afterward.
7. Owen sleeps with both of his giraffes every night. One is tied to the crib So it doesn't get thrown out and the other giraffe is free to float around the bed with Owen. He also sleeps with two blankets, my old baby blanket and his Owen blankie but I don't think he is attached to either of those things at all.
8. Owen is a thumb sucker. He doesn't really suck his thumb except when he is sleepy or when he holds his giraffe. We took away the pacifier when he was 5 months old and I may regret this for a long time. Hopefully Owen doesn't suck his thumb forever.
9. Owen still hates the car. I don't like putting him in the car EVER! Although he has improved he still cries on a car ride that lasts more than 20 minutes unless he is napping.
10. Owen goes crazy for balls of any kind. I have never seen any kid like it, he can kick the ball, throw the ball, make a basket in his basketball goal and even pretend to make a touchdown. He is overjoyed when he sees balls! His favorite thing to watch on tv is football, but basketball is a close second. He is a total boy. Owen also likes to play with cars, trucks and airplanes.
11. Owen is a sweet little boy and will lay his head on my chest while I rock him after books. We love when he opens his mouth wide and goes in for a big sloppy kiss.
12. Owen is a little shy when we visit a new place or are around new people, except at his own house. But he quickly warms up and begins exploring and playing. He is happy as long as he can see his mama or daddy.
13. Owen loves to dance to music. His newest move is to throw his hand in the air and wave it around like he just doesn't care. We have been trying to teach him to drop it low.
14. Owen has 10 teeth and each tooth that has popped up has caused chaos in our lives, interrupting sleep, making for a whiny child, etc. I am ready for all of these teeth to come through already.

Homemade cinnamon rolls
I've been posting a lot about food lately, you can tell what's on my mind. I decided to make homemade cinnamon rolls to give to our neighbors for the holidays. The recipe is from The Pioneer Woman. I follow her blog and use her for some of my favorite recipes, which includes this one. I thought I would share some pictures from our mess of a day.
Now off to deliver...
All done.
The following day we visited Owen's favorite man with the white beard, Santa or in Owen's words, "hoho".
He loves "hoho" but only from afar. When it came time to leave mama's arms he wasn't too happy.
I thought I would give you a little throwback photo, look how little and chubby my baby was. He was also a LOT happier to be on Santa's lap last year.
The final product...
Thia is how Owen helped, staying out of my way....Now off to deliver...

Pasta Italiano, si per favore!
Italian pasta, yes please! My brother in law organized this awesome night at Lexington Pasta Company where we learned how to make fresh homemade pasta. The company was started by these two guys here...
Now they sell pasta to many local stores and restaurants and are working on selling to Kroger. They have a really incredible story, so check it out on their website when you get a chance. Www.lexingtonpastacompany.com You may see their pasta at a store near you. We were lucky enough to learn from the best.
We mixed four ingredients together (water, oil, eggs and semolina - a type of flour). Then put the mix into a machine that rolled the dough to look like this....
Then it was put into another machine that cut the pasta and made it into spaghetti....
Afterwards we ate this delicious masterpiece which is so good it only needed a little olive oil and Parmesan cheese....
We were there to celebrate my sister Kristin's birthday. Happy birthday sister! I love you so much and am blessed to have you in my life!
These two enjoyed themselves, maybe a little too much....

We are BACK!
Long time, no blog. Sorry we have been MIA lately, we have been busy traveling and spending time with our families, and running all over town finishing up our Christmas shopping. I said this year I was going to do it all online so I don't have to deal with any of this.
While we have been away from the blog, we have gotten to spend some quality time with our families. First we went to the Drapp's in Ohio for Thanksgiving. Owen sat and watched his first Macy's Thanksgiving parade.
He tried some new food...
And read some books with Grammy....
After we came home from Ohio we put up our Christmas decorations...
And went downtown to see the Lexington Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
I love the ice skating rink in the middle of downtown.
How cute is this?
After Thanksgiving, Owen and I headed to Martinsville to visit with my family and friends. Owen loved watching sports with PopPop. PopPop tried teaching Owen to say "boom baby" when someone scores a basket so now Owen says "boom" when basketball comes on. Much to my dad's dismay Owen is only allowed to cheer for the Wildcats, not the Hoosiers this season.
Owen loved playing with GG's toys which are the same toys I played with as a little girl.
We had a playdate with April and Joey. Owen is really into exploring his nose at the moment.
I spent some time with these lovely ladies at Kristi's baby shower. It was so nice to be back in town and see some of my oldest friends. Baby WeWora will be here in Febuary and Jenna is pregnant with Baby Bennett who will be here in May. I can't wait to meet Owen's newest friends!
Or this....
No, this isn't Owen, but this is the face I usually see while shopping with my toddler. I did some of my shopping online but I just can't resist holiday shopping in person. So fresh and so clean
Owen just got over a cold and runny nose so I innocently decided it was time to wash his favorite animal , his giraffe. He has two of them and I successfully washed one without him noticing but this time, I wasn't so successful. I put his beloved giraffe in the washer with other clothes and I heard Owen crying, I couldn't figure out why he was so upset. He was standing outside of the washer pointing and crying and sucking his thumb (which he only does when he has his giraffe).
We sat and watched the giraffe circle around in the washer and I tried to make it sound exciting and funny, this didn't work so I tried to distract Owen with food, this didn't work he kept running back to the laundry room and banging on the door. I even went upstairs and gave him the other giraffe, somehow he knew this wasn't the right one. Finally it was clean and dry and Owen and his giraffe were reunited at last.

Toddler time
It is hard to believe that Owen is now a toddler. He is so interactive and hilarious! He is learning new things everyday. Owen now LOVES to read books. He really can't get enough of them. He plays for a little while and then we see him running over to one of us with a new book to read. We play this game of reading book after book most evenings.
He has been trying to feed himself which is a giant mess and I'm not quite sure he actually gets any food in his belly.
Since the weather is getting colder it is difficult to motivate myself to run before Brad leaves for work and it is sometimes too cold to take Owen out for a run. So I decided to get a gym membership for the winter and take Owen to the daycare at the gym while I work out. Last week was really one of the first few times leaving Owen with someone he doesn't know. He was not happy to say the least and the lady at the daycare had to come get me out of Pilates class after 30 minutes to tell me she couldn't get Owen to calm down. I could hear Owen screaming down the hallway. Look at the sad baby below, sorry Owen but we are going to try again next week.

But he's pretty happy.
Just because he is a toddler doesn't mean that he isn't a bit whiny at times. We still have a rough time in the evenings waiting on daddy to come home from work while I am trying to get dinner ready. I sometimes have to carry him on my back to get anything done.Since the weather is getting colder it is difficult to motivate myself to run before Brad leaves for work and it is sometimes too cold to take Owen out for a run.
