Chicago, Indiana and chickenpox....oh my!!!

We have had an eventful week. My mom, Owen and I headed to Chicago for a few days to visit Nicole and the kids. We were looking forward to shopping, the zoo, the beach and all that the great city has to offer. We had a great time exploring and just living in the city. We stayed in an apartment that Kurt and Nicole rented right across from the Drake Hotel and a block from the beach. We were right in the middle of everything. Here are some highlights from the trip....

On the way to Chicago, we met up in Cincinnati and had breakfast with Uncle Brian and said goodbye to daddy for the week.

Owen did a great job on the car ride to Chicago. He slept off and on during the five hour drive there. Once we arrived we started exploring. We spent a lot of time at parks throughout the city.

Look at my beautiful niece Victoria!

Owen enjoyed getting reaquainted with Nicole.

However, Victoria was a little jealous.

We spent some time at the beach.

Owen's first time in the sand. He wasn't so sure he about it.

Running on the beach was my favorite early morning activity.

We spent a lot of time walking around the city and shopping.

Ollie was such a big boy and did a great job walking through the windy city!

We went to some yummy restaurants, which obviously made Owen happy.

We rode in a taxi to the zoo at Lincoln Park.

Owen loved shopping, but only when he had a balloon to play with.

Owen's favorite part of the trip was playing with Victoria and Oliver. He loves his cousins, and we can't wait to see them again this winter!

The trip was going great and then all of a sudden we began to notice some red spots on Owen's face. They didn't seem to bother him much. I called the doctor and they thought it was probably a reaction from the antibiotic he was on a few weeks ago for his ear infection.

Then they began to get worse by the time we arrived in Indiana.

We called Nurse Grammy and she thought it might be chickenpox, which began our conclusion to believe that it is. Owen was a little whiny and clingy while he was sick but never had a fever. We could tell that he was uncomfortable which lasted for about three days. We still had a lot of fun while we were visiting Indiana.

Owen rode the tractor with PopPop.

And played with Wyatt

We visited with Teddy and Aunt Dorena.

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting my cousin Eric's memorial shelter. It was such a perfect morning to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the shelter. It was especially important to take Owen there because we named him Owen Bradley after Eric Bradley. Eric and I were very close growing up and going to the shelter reminded me of his smile and laugh and all the fun time we shared. We all miss him very much! I want Owen to know how special his middle name is and for the memory of Eric to live on.

While in Indiana I was able to spend some time with my girlfriends.

Going to dinner

And seeing lots of old friends at Jacob and Margaret's wedding.

After a week of fun we are so happy to be home. We will be home for only a few days before Brad and I leave on our annual trip to Tennesee with our friends from college.
